FCFQG September Meeting @ Plantation Garden Condos Community Room

Remember the meeting will be at Plantation Garden Condos Community Room. Johnny and Debra Johnston will present a lecture and trunk show of antique sewing machines and quilts. There will also be some machines for sale. The address for the meeting site is 4270 Lake Underhill Road, Orlando 32803. There will be signs from Lake Underhill Road pointing into the complex and the community room is in the rear of the complex. The condominium is just west of Conway Road.

Janet Fogg Class @ Wandering Stitches

RESCHEDULED – Featherweight Maintenance Class @ Faith Assembly of God

Johnny Johnston will teach his Featherweight Maintenance Class – this is a must-take class for Featherweight owners! He will have machines for sale as well.

Here is what the class will cover:

1. A brief history of the Featherweight.
2. How to get the most from your Featherweight.
3. Common Featherweight problems and how to resolve them.
4. Doing your own maintenance. This is hands on and you will service your machine. Bring everything you have to maintain your 221 (see list below).
5. What are all those attachments for?
6. What new attachments are there for my Featherweight?
7. Questions & answers

What you need to bring to class:
1. Your personal Featherweight and everything you have for it ( book, accessory feet, motor lube, cleaning brush, screw driver, bobbins, needles, case, power & foot control cords, thread and cloth)
2. The oiler you use, if you have one.
3. A flashlight.
4. An old towel or cloth to set your machine and items on. (We don’t want to get the tables covered in oil and dirt.)
5. A piece of batting about 8” square.
6. A magnifying glass if you need one to help you see small things.
7. A couple of rags.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year—it’s time for our annual Holiday Party during our Monday, December 4th meeting. Please bring a pot luck item to share (please bring the recipe so our folks with food allergies can see your ingredients). Bring a wrapped gift for the gift exchange ($10-15) and 3 fat quarters for the game. Someone will go home with a pile of fat quarters!

January 2018 Guild Meeting @ Marks Street Recreation Center

Welcome to the first FCFQG meeting of 2018.  We’re starting the new year with a trunk show by Joyce Johnson and Michelle Reinhard, an”Ugly Dog” Contest (bring a minimum of a fat quarter of the ugliest fabric in your stash – if you are a winner, you can replace it with something pretty!) , and demonstrations of favorite sewing tools by six members.

Social hour starts at 5, business meeting begins at 6, followed by the evening’s programs.

Blooming Feathered Star Wall Quilt @ Faith Assembly of God

Nancy Mahoney will present her Blooming Feathered Star Class. The class is only $35, which includes the pattern.

This is the perfect class for any quilter who wants to learn how to make a Feathered Star Block. Nancy takes students through a step-by-step class, with accurate rotary cutting and piecing techniques for making accurate triangle squares. Her methods make short work of this tricky-looking block. Design and color possibilities will be discussed. Pattern included for each student. Finished size: 44” x 44”.

Carol Goodboe Demonstration/Sit-N-Sew @ Marks Street Recreation Center (Oak Room)

You are invited to a sit-n-sew on Monday, February 5th at 10AM. Carol Goodbee of “Bowl Pink in October Inc”, a 501(c)3 organization, will give a demonstration. Carol and her husband George started this charity four years ago to help breast cancer patients.
They started by making pillows for the patients. Now they are making rag quilts in addition to the pillows. They are in need of help and are asking for our assistance.
Carol will supply all the fabric to make these quilts. Bring your sewing machine with a walking foot, pink thread, 8-1/2” X 24” ruler (if you have one), and basic quilting supplies.
