Quilt Show Categories

2015 Quilt Fever Categories

A category will be considered viable and prizes awarded when at least 5 entries are received in that category. If a category has less than 5 entries, we reserve the right to move the entries to another category.

Unless otherwise noted, the following prizes will be awarded in each category:

  • First Place – Ribbon and $75
  • Second Place – Ribbon and $50
  • Third Place – Ribbon and $25

One quilt will be judged to be Best of Show, with an award of a Ribbon and $300

Pieced Quilts

  • Large Pieced: 50% or more pieced; length plus width greater than 139 inches, no larger than 110” X 110”
  • Medium Pieced: 50% or more pieced; length plus width between 86-139 inches
  • Small Pieced: 50% or more pieced; length plus width between 31-85 inches

Applique Quilts

  • Large/Medium Applique: 50% or more of top is applique; length plus width must exceed 85 inches.
  • Small Applique: 50% or more of top is applique; length plus width between 31-85 inches
  • To determine how much of a quilt is appliqued, do not count the borders if they are solid strips of fabric.

Miniatures: Scaled-down version of a large quilt design; maximum size 24” X 24” or 96” perimeter

Wearables: Any technique. Some quilting required.

Art Quilts

  • Large Art: Designed to be viewed on a wall and must be an original design or creative interpretation of a traditional quilt pattern, but not a copy of an existing or commercial pattern. Size must exceed 150 inches (width plus length) but must not exceed 90 inches in width or length.
  • Small Art: Designed to be viewed on a wall and must be an original design or creative interpretation of a traditional quilt pattern, but not a copy of an existing or commercial pattern. Size not to exceed 150 inches (width plus length).

 Collaborative Quilts

  • Large Collaborative: Any quilt made as a joint effort by two or more people. Length plus width must exceed 139 inches, but no larger than 110” X 110”
  • Medium/Small Collaborative: Any quilt made as a joint effort by two or more people. Length plus width must equal 139 inches or less.

Other Techniques

  • Includes whole cloth quilts, yo-yo quilts, hand and machine embroidered, heavily embellished quilts, crazy quilts, cathedral window quilts, and quilts with very special techniques.
  • Entries may be of any size except miniature but may not exceed 110 inches wide and 110 inches long.

Guild Challenge 2014

  • Open only to members in good standing of the Florida Cabin Fever Quilters Guild
  • These quilts will be judged by popular vote, with ribbons and monetary prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
  • Following the show, these quilts and associated books will be donated to children in need

Youth

  • Entries in the Youth category must have been made by someone aged 17 as of the close of entries on December 7, 2014
  • Entries are eligible for participation ribbons only

Viewer’s Choice

  • These quilts will be judged by popular vote from all Quilt Fever categories with ribbons and monetary prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  The 1st place winner is awarded an additional prize donated by a Quilt Fever sponsor.

Esther Clark Memorial Quilting Award

  • $75 awarded to the Best Machine Quilting as selected by our judge
  • $75 awarded to the Best Hand Quilting as selected by our judge
